Interests: Reading
Reading keeps me quiet for ages, which can't be a bad thing. If there's nothing else to do, I can sit for ages with a book. It can be done pretty much anywhere, except when you're driving, for example.
I like to read mainly crime, psychological and medical thrillers, with the occasional rubbishy romance thrown in when I get sick of all the doom and gloom, or if I want to read something in the bath that I don't mind getting a bit damp, although I haven't actually bought any for a long time. I also read the odd odd book that happens to take my fancy. I'm not keen on spy stories or war stories. I especially like Peter Robinson's Inspector Alan Banks series and The cat who... series by Lilian Jackson Braun, although I find Qwilleran to be rather obnoxious in his vanity. I also like the Reacher books by Lee Child, the Temperance Brennan books by Kathy Reichs,, the Lincoln Rhyme books by Jeffery Deaver, Karin Slaughter (such a good name for a crime thriller writer)'s books and some of Tess Gerritsen's work. Oh, and of course, I read the odd linguistics book!
I don't like Sidney Sheldon, Erica Spindler, James Patterson, Jonathon Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell and one or two others.
My books
Find out more about my reading habits in my My Books blog. My books are slowly but surely being catalogued online at LibraryThing - I now have a a bar code scanner, so it's much faster and so I'm much more likely to update my library. Of course, there are some awkward ones, where the wrong cover is chosen, the barcode isn't recognised for some reason or there isn't a barcode at all. Where the wrong cover is chosen, I have to change it, using a default blank one of the correct one is not there at all. Where there is a problem with the barcode, the ISBN still has to be entered manually.
There's now the functionality to identify duplicate ISBNs, so I can easily remove any I've accidentally added more than once. It would be useful to know this before I add it to my library, however, so that I don't have to add it then delete it again. Another new thing is collections, so I can add my husband's books as well, but keep them separately from my own. However, there is no way that I can see of setting a default collection, so the one always selected is my husband's, which is particularly irritating. But not as irritating as when it decides to randomly change the collection back to my husband's when I'm not looking. Also, annoyingly, there is no dedicated field to put the edition of a particular work.
You can see the books I've added to my library most recently below alongside a random selection of my books. You can also search my library from the sidebar.
