Accents

I have noticed that if I attempt certain accents, the pitch of my voice also alters. For example, Brummy is always low-pitched. Scouse is always high, as is French but French has a nasal edge. I was with a French friend recently, and she received a call on her mobile. She spoke French on the phone, and I noticed that her voice seemed to be a bit higher when speaking her native French compared to when she spoke English.
I am currently reading a book published in 1947 by a German writing in (American) English. I have to take the Germanness into account when reading this, because in my experience, Germans writing in (any) English write long and convoluted sentences. This author is certainly writing convoluted sentences. The author makes reference to another German author and his work, which I read in my German accent. I noticed this sounded aggressive. Almost Daleky, but perhaps less electronic.
I apologise to all native speakers of German.
Update (07/07/08, shortly before Neighbours (first showing)): it was amusing and perhaps ironic that the daleks appeared to be speaking German in the finale of Doctor Who on Saturday.
