Kendomonial

Monday 12th May, 2008 ~ 8.53am BST by Pandammonium

A couple of Fridays ago, I was a bit on the tipsy side and agreed that me and Colin would go to watch the match yesterday at Histon.  It was Kendo’s testimonial match, playing against Micky Quinn’s Allstars, who consisted of Spidermonkey, on the subs bench until some point in the second half, some ex-players and other such jackies.

Histon won, the final score being something like 11-2.  Micky Quinn was fat, was round, he bounced on the ground.

There were beers afterwards in the bar (as opposed to the beers during, in the stands, and beforehand, in the Railway Vue, which will shortly be changing its name to the Guided Busway Vue).

Fully dressed

Thursday 15th March, 2007 ~ 8.34am GMT by Pandammonium

Last night, I got my wedding dress. I’ve also got a veil and a tiara. It’s all fab and possibly a tad over the top, but I love it, and that’s what matters.

Oh, and what C thinks when he finally sees me in it all! He’s currently banned from the cat’s bedroom, where I’m storing it all. The cat’s banned as well. Her bed’s now outside the door.

I had a drink after putting it in the car, and who should be in the bar but two of the experts from Antiques Roadshow/Bargain Hunt/other BBC antiques programs! I have no idea of their names, and I didn’t have the (Dutch) courage to go up to them and say anything, so we just whispered about them.

Alan “Fluff” Freeman

Tuesday 28th November, 2006 ~ 3.34pm GMT by Pandammonium

How can you not have heard of Alan “Fluff” Freeman? C reckons he hasn’t. “Is he famous?” he asked me during the One O’Clock News on the BBC, as they informed us that he’d died. *sigh*

He’s a bit better today. Let’s hope he gets a bit better every day.

Richard “Hamster” Hammond

Thursday 21st September, 2006 ~ 5.34pm BST by Pandammonium

I love Richard Hammond; he’s handsome and funny. I’m really quite upset by his accident, and I don’t even know him personally.
I really hope he makes a full recovery. Apparently, the doctors are “reasonably optimistic” he’ll be ok (1), despite a serious brain injury. I hope they’re right.

My thoughts are with him and his family and friends. Get well soon, Hamster.

You can make a donation to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, who whisked Hamster to hospital, leaving a message for him if you want.

This fuss about Prince Charles

Friday 17th March, 2006 ~ 2.26pm GMT by Pandammonium

Prince Charles apparently wrote these journals and intended to send them to people close to him as if they were letters. The contents of these journals were intended to be between him and their recipients. Now, the Mail on Sunday has got its hands on them and has published one about Charlie’s views on Hong Kong and wants to print stuff from seven more about other stuff. The High Court has prevented the rest of the Hong Kong journal from being published, but Charles will have to go to to court if he wants to prevent the rest of the journals from being published.

In my view, these journals are private and should not be splashed across newspapers’ pages. The Mail on Sunday should return these journals to Prince Charles without taking any other action.

On the ITV news earlier today, the reporter was asking do we have a right to know what Prince Charles’s political opinions are. If it comes out in court that yes we do, then this could get ridiculous. Will we then be entitled to know what other members of the Royal Family’s political opinions are? Can we just ask them outright if they haven’t written them down? Does that mean the press can hound them? They’d love that, wouldn’t they? Are we sure we’re not confusing curiosity with the right to know something? I think the public has as much right to know what his political opinions are as much as it has to know mine. None. We don’t have secret ballots in this country for nothing, you know.

If Prince Charles had wanted the general public to know his views on politics, I am sure he would have made us quite aware of them, as he has done in the past on architecture and the environment. The BBC quotes Associated Newspapers (who publish the Mail) as saying: “It cannot be legitimate for the prince to claim the right to engage in political controversy and, at the same time, deny the public the right to know that he is doing so.” I think they’re trying to make it sound like he’s being hypocritical, but I don’t think that follows at all. Do we really have the right to know that’s he’s engaging in so-called political controversy?

I think this whole rights thing is going too far now. It’s joining political correctness in its over-the-top ludicrosity.
