Screensaver does not display on Windows Vista
My shiny red laptop has Windows Vista on it, but recently, I’ve noticed that the screensaver refuses to display. Not a serious problem, especially not for an LCD, but it’s just annoying! So I asked Google about it, and Google said to read this article to find out why. This is an article by someone called Chris, who says that he had exactly the same problem, and he fixed it by unplugging his wireless Microsoft laser mouse, so I incredulously unplugged mine, which I have disliked since the day I got it. Lo and behold, one screensaver. Astonishing.
Update: the answer is to, with the receiver plugged in, download and install an optional update from Microsoft called Microsoft - Other Hardware - HID Non-User Input Data Filter. Then it’ll work fine. You can save your screen all you like.

Hi there!
I have this same problem, although I have the Logitech MX Revolution (BlueTooth) mouse.
The screensaver crashes right at the start.
What have I done so fa:
1. I have disabled from Services this HID (by running Services.msc from Start->Search and then from the list I disabled the HID service)
2. I have uninstalled Logitech SetPoint software.
3. My Vista doesn’t find this update “HID Non-User Input Data Filter”, I guess because I don’t have Microsoft mouse?
Below is the error report I get from the Crash. (I translated from finnish, so the terms might be a bit different..9
Please, help! Very annoying problem!

Hi Olwi,
Thanks for stopping by.
Did you look in the correct place for the update? You need to go to Windows Updates (which you can find by typing it into the search bar of the Start menu). It should be there. If not, you could maybe search for it on Microsoft’s website (try starting here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/help.aspx?displayLang=en, or if you prefer the Finnish, here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/help.aspx?displayLang=fi making sure you use Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer).
In order to install the update, you’ll need to have the HID service running (I presume), the mouse installed and the Bluetooth equivalent of having the wireless receiver plugged in (probably have the devices connected).
Hope this helps.

I don’t know. I suggest you try the page I linked to from the update in the main article, or to search Google or Microsoft’s knowledge base.
