Science v religion
Yeah, I’d pretty much agree with this post.
To reply to Teresa, who commented on this post, I turn to my friends and family for help and support when life is difficult. I’m saddened by the fact that some people don’t (seem to/think they) have friends and family that they can rely on in times of trouble.
To answer Bats, who also commented on the post, yes, scientific theory changes; it changes when new evidence or a new proof comes along. You missed the point that religion also changes when scientific theory changes. Look how we don’t need gods to explain the sun any more, or the moon. We don’t need gods to explain war (although gods are the cause of a lot of them) or famine or anything else various ancient civilisations had gods to explain any more. We use science to explain these things. Even (some) modern religions acknowledge these things – doesn’t even Christianity (ignoring the Creationists) accept the Big Bang theory and evolution now?
I agree with SlimCady’s comment, barring the last paragraph, which I find a little harsh. Some “religious types” do “offer [something] of merit to society”; these are the people who do good and charitable works, are kind to people, help people in times of need and so on. It’s only unfortunate that they need to do it because some mystical being told them to, rather than thinking for themselves.
