Neighbours: update
A while ago, I reported my neighbours to the Environmental Health people at the council, who sent me a nice letter saying that they’d sent a letter to my neighbours telling them there’d been a complaint about noise from their property. I was also told to keep a diary (which they enclosed) of any nuisance noise from them for two weeks, which I did.
At first, they were nice and quiet, but then the noise levels started appearing again. Nowhere near as bad as before, but still bad enough. So it was recorded on my diary sheet. I sent it off, and was gratified with another letter from the council saying that they’d sent another letter to my neighbours, telling them that there’d been further complaints. The letter (to me) also said that if the noise continued, I was to phone this jackie and get them to come round and measure the noise. If the jackie deemed the noise levels to be suitably irksome, then they had the power to confiscate the equipment responsible (how that works with voice boxes, I’m not sure). Since then, we haven’t heard a peep out of them, which has been great. Then they moved out! Result!
Today, someone else is moving in, a middle-aged-type couple, it appears. Maybe they’ll be nice, quiet people. Maybe they’ll think we‘re the noisy ones! They can’t be worse than the last lot though. And to think I thought the first woman was bad.
Update: they’re actually about our age; the older people must have been the parents of at least one of them.
