The weather
The weather remained fine yesterday, unlike today, so rounders went ahead. We won the toss and our cap’n decided we should field first, so field first we did. On the first hit, I got the chance to catch the batter out, but I charved it right up by not standing where the ball was going to go and generally being quite scared of it hurting me – I’ve been hit by them balls before – it’s sore! I got no chance in that innings to redeem myself, nor did I redeem myself in batting. I wasn’t out for ages though, so that’s an achievement in itself. Isn’t it?
We were 9-5 up by the time they got us all out, so it was decided that we would have another 10-minute innings each. They scored another 9, with my fielding again not being up to much. In fact, you could say that the ball, on its only journey anywhere near me, went straight between my legs. On our turn in batting, I wasn’t out at all by the end of the 10 minutes, but I might have got a rounder if the bowling hadn’t been getting quite so erratic, and the opposition not letting a little thing like a no ball disrupt the game. Then again, I probably would have just hit the ball somewhere between second and third base as I did throughout. Anyway, we won by quite a few – no-one was quite sure by how many in the end. I think we stopped counting when we knew we’d won.
Then we went, obligatorily, to the Maypole. Saw HT, which was really good, as I’ve not seen her for donkeys’.
