Blogs

My main blog is Pandammonia, and it is really just my ramblings. I like to think it's evolved since I started in December 2003 from an I-did-this diary to one containing things like my take on events, my ideas, my thoughts and opinions, and, of course, what I did. It's not updated as frequently as it used to be, but it's certainly not a dead blog.

My second blog is My Books. It started off as a way of keeping a record of what books I have read, but now I also have an online catalogue of my books (see my Reading page). I don't update this one very often - mainly because I never seem to get round to it, but I am trying to update it more frequently, along with writing reviews for each book.

Other blogs

I read various blogs - usually as a way to procrastinate. The ones I check most frequently are listed below for my convenience.

It is forbidden to urinate here. The penalty is bang. by Victor Mair; 2010-09-02T12:38:08Z

Despite the best efforts of two dozen stellar native and non-native scholars and teachers of Chinese, we still have not reached a consensus about the exact meaning and syntax of the sign at a Shanghai construction site presented in "Next Day's Chinese lesson":  Jìnzhǐ xiǎobiàn, fǒuzé sǐrén 禁止小便,否則死人 ("prohibit urine, otherwise die per

We go to the hospital. by JonnyB; Wed, 25 Aug 2010 14:17:43 +0000

“Right,” says the doctor, removing his hand from the LTLP’s vagina. “Caesarian this afternoon.” Things are all happening at once. First there is my sore toe, now there is a caesarian. We go downstairs to have a coffee, her waddling, me limping. She turns to me when we sit down. “Are you SURE that your

Today’s photo is another “lunchtime walk” jobbie. (Like I said, there are going to be a lot of these…) This is taken from the lock just up the river from where Tuesday’s picture was taken. There is a little waterfall the other side of the lock which may well feature in a photo at some

Blast from the canoeing past by Ferg; 2010-08-31T12:43:46Z

Many, many years ago I went on a mass protest on the River Seiont in Wales. I’ve just come across a webpage documenting this. I do not see myself on those pictures, but If you want to look I was paddling a yellow Perception Sabre with a bright pink cag. The protest was mainly against the intimidation

Do any of you happen to know of any cheap and not too busy barbers in Cambridge? I've decided to take B to a barber rather than cut his hair myself (probably) but I have zero experience of professional haircuts, and Colin's and Jon's are a long time ago.

Long time no post….. by ferg; 2010-08-27T10:16:28Z

It’s been a while since I last posted on here. But it’s not been because of a lack of things to write about. I refurbished the front windows of the house and they are now looking good! We had a new fence constructed: I’ve done a lot of reconfiguring of the network cabinets, including a new 24port

Credit card fraud, of a different kind by Helen Theaker; 2009-12-09T11:57:00.006Z

This is nothing to do with my career shenanigans, but I'm cross and I need a rant. I've just booked a ticket, single from Burton on Trent to Basingstoke, 18th Dec. It's 3 bleeding changes and costs £21.45, and that's with a railcard. I don't think that's too expensive, and I like getting trains so I'm not too fussed about the journey. However what I DO object to

On looking well by DC; 2010-08-18T21:26:00.002Z

A correspondent writes to say that she has found such sentences as these on the internet: Keeping these things in mind, you can look well in black dresses. Peasant tops look well on small busted girls. She goes on: 'I was always taught that to look good is to be attractive, while to look well is to appear healthy. According to that rule, this use of well would be incorrect. Is there any tim
