Blogs

My main blog is Pandammonia, and it is really just my ramblings. I like to think it's evolved since I started in December 2003 from an I-did-this diary to one containing things like my take on events, my ideas, my thoughts and opinions, and, of course, what I did. It's not updated as frequently as it used to be, but it's certainly not a dead blog.

My second blog is My Books. It started off as a way of keeping a record of what books I have read, but now I also have an online catalogue of my books (see my Reading page). I don't update this one very often - mainly because I never seem to get round to it, but I am trying to update it more frequently, along with writing reviews for each book.

Other blogs

I read various blogs - usually as a way to procrastinate. The ones I check most frequently are listed below for my convenience.

Firemen, dental practice, and danglers by Geoffrey K. Pullum; 2010-03-20T18:09:12Z

Said the story in the Ottawa Citizen: The woman was trapped in her car unconscious for about 20 minutes while firefighters performed an extraction, he said. And alert Language Log reader Diane commented: "I had no idea our firefighters were also trained at dentistry!" She also asked me wh

My garden is full of chickens!!! by JonnyB; Fri, 19 Mar 2010 10:36:52 +0000

I stare over the LTLP’s shoulder. They are clearly visible through the scullery window. There is a dead, ominous silence, which I don’t understand, as she is shouting and screaming at them and banging the window. “Get OFF the garden!!! PISS OFF!!! GET OFF MY PLANTS you little shitbags!!!” Such language that chickens should never be forced to

Judith are the cutest by anonymous; Wed, 17 Mar 2010 22:12:44 GMT

We were at church for the St Patrick's day party, and there was dancing. Elizabeth and Maggie, who are proper Irish dancers, danced, and then the question was 'would anyone else like to dance?' So Judith got up, and started dancing her way ou

My bamboo desk by ferg; 2010-02-22T22:20:04Z

I finally built my desk. I used a 3 metre 720mm x 40mm Bamboo kitchen work surface from these people: First I built a framework from 3 of 2×4″ joists. I wanted a full 2.8 metre span without any legs so I needed a pretty strong frame. It was actually quite hard to keep

Credit card fraud, of a different kind by Helen Theaker; 2009-12-09T11:57:00.006Z

This is nothing to do with my career shenanigans, but I'm cross and I need a rant. I've just booked a ticket, single from Burton on Trent to Basingstoke, 18th Dec. It's 3 bleeding changes and costs £21.45, and that's with a railcard. I don't think that's too expensive, and I like getting trains so I'm not too fussed about the journey. However what I DO object to

On the dangers of Facebook by DC; 2010-03-19T09:54:00.002Z

A correspondent writes to ask if linguistics has anything to offer in relation to the recent Facebook paedophile scandal and all the current discussion about panic buttons. Of course it does. Indeed, the point has already come up on this blog, when I was talking about internet applications a few years ago (March 2007). In 2003 I developed an application called Chatsafe, using a technology I call
