Google+

I’m finding Google+ very confusing.

I use Google Apps for my email, but Google weren’t allowing Google Apps accounts to use Google+ for reasons that I’m not privy to. So I used my Gmail address. I added people to my circles; people added me to their circles. This was a mistake because soon after, they allowed Google Apps accounts to use Google+.

This in itself is a problem because I use two email accounts, one for personal stuff and one for internet stuff so that my inbox isn’t cluttered with stuff from websites and to minimise spam. My friends have my personal address and my internet one is given on this website. Of course, my friends don’t necessarily know that I use two different email addresses, so they invite me, using my personal address, to join Google+. Meanwhile, I’m adding people to my internet Google+ account and wondering how I can merge or otherwise import my Gmail Google+’s stuff into my internet Google+ (other than just sharing it, which is deeply unsatisfactory).

Just to add further confusion, I discovered yesterday that you can add pages, like this Eldarion one set up by someone I know, to your Google+ account, so I did that just now, linking my shiny new pandammonium does google+ page to my internet Google+ account.

The result is that I now have about fifty Google+ accounts (ok, that might be a minor exaggeration), with people having one or more of my accounts in their circles and probably some wonderment as to what’s going on. Well, now you know. Sorry. I blame Google, especially Google Apps, and spam. Oh, and Facebook.

Incidentally, to help you work out which account is which, I have made the avatars of the accounts I won’t be using (any more) faded versions of my usual bamboo-eating panda avatar. There’s also a link to the Google+ account I actually use and a link to my pandammonium Google+ page in the sidebar.
