Tea

  1. Take a cup of cold milky tea.
  2. Put it in a microwave (making sure the cup is microwave-safe, of course).
  3. Microwave the tea for 3 minutes on full power (category D, 700 W).
  4. Open door to discover tea has boiled over.

Crackin’.

Tell the world about this!

  • Ninety seconds should usually suffice.

  • How to clean the now dirty microwave:

    1) Take the now empty cup.
    2) Half fill with hot water.
    3) Carefully pour a small amount of washing up liquid into cup, to form a layer at the bottom.
    4) Place in microwave, on full power for 60 seconds.

Hey presto the inside of your microwave is clean as the soap/water mixture explodes all over the inside of microwave. (I guess it’s something to do with heat coefficients of different liquids etc and blah, blah).

I discovered this at work, one lunchtime, whilst cleaning my mug. Oh and the mug does get clean too.

  • Does that method remove months and months and months of tannin build-up as well, Stef?

  • Best thing for tannin build-up, apart from some mighty scrubbing, is a drop of diluted bleach in the cup and leaving it overnight.

    Be careful to rinse completely.
